Hidden Curriculum in Medical Education

The hidden curriculum refers to norms and values that are passed along to medical students and residents, often unintentionally, and that undermine the formal medical education curriculum. For example, the perceived views that one specialty is inferior to another.

This is an important issue that especially impacts family medicine and by learning more about resident experiences we can also learn how to better address the challenges posed by the hidden curriculum.
